Completed in 2020 this new three classroom block and toilet block including universal bathroom is a welcome addition to Hikurangi School to accommodate roll growth. The classroom block recycles an existing concrete plinth from a previous classroom block to act as a stage and connection between the three modern learning environments and the outdoor setting. Constructed from a portal frame structure and raised well off the ground due to the flood prone nature of the site, the buildings have low maintenance cladding concealed by vibrant colours to knit into the existing school infrastructure. The building embraces passive ventilation techniques as well as modern technology.
